We Played a game called dinosaur doubles after discussing the skip counting pattern of 2s that can be found in the solutions to the equations.  Fun was had!

Snowmen

The snow didn't cooperate this week! It was too fluffy and not sticky enough for snowmen. We had fun playing outside anyway! We will try again next week so please continue to send your child with all the clothes needed to play in the snow. Next tuesday is looking promising.

We have put a hold on our weekly words for a little bit until we master all that have been on our lists.

Days to keep in mind in March:

  • PT interviews March 10th and 11th
  • No school the 11th.
  • Pillars of Care online assembly Friday March 18th .
  • Twin Day March 18th
  • March Break March 21st-25th- No School

Welcome to March

Wow! I can't believe it is March! We have celebrated the 100th day of school and have about 79 days left! This year is flying by!

Be sure to send the home reading folder in often to have books exchanged. It is very important to spend at least 10 minutes a night having your child read to you. Please have your child let me know when they are ready to be tested on the words that are on their sight word ring so that I can add more words. There are about 130 sight words that grade one students  should be able to read instantly without sounding out by the end of grade one and an additional 40 or so by the end of grade two. When children can easily read these words books become more enjoyable! About 78% of everything we read is composed of sight words. We are working hard to master these words in class too!

In Science we will be using paint in the next two weeks. Please wear clothes that aren't favourites. We will be wrapping up our colour unit next week and moving into learning about Spring changes for animals and humans and plant growth and changes.

In Social we are learning about Community and concepts such as cooperation, politeness and honesty. This months pillar of care is Truth.

Please send your child with clothes to play in the snow the next couple of weeks. When it snows the right type of snow for snowmen we will be building snowmen and writing about how to build them. (procedural writing).  The forecast says it is supposed to snow tomorrow and Thursday. My fingers are crossed.

In Math we have started talking about Story problems/ Word problems and the Math words we need to know to be able to figure out whether we need to add or subtract. We are working with ten frames to help our visualization of addition and subtraction.
