Upcoming Spirit Days!

November Spirit is this Tuesday, Nov 30th, and it is crazy hair day! Students and staff will wear their craziest hairstyles they can whip up this Tuesday!

December Spirit Day is the last day of school this term, Friday Dec 17th, and it will be Festive Holiday themed.  That could mean, ugly holiday sweaters, dress as Santa or his elves or his reindeer or a snowmen/women, or even a lit-up holiday tree! Basically, anything to get into that holiday cheer!

Loonie for Lunches Donations

With the holiday season soon approaching it's important to care for others and give back to those who are less fortunate than us.  This holiday season, Beddington Heights School will be a part of 2 programs that the city of Calgary runs for those less fortunate.

The first program is Loonies for Lunches.  Loonies for Lunches would bring students together to collect loonies to donate to the food bank. Each school and/or classroom would create a donation box to collect the loonies and perhaps have some healthy competition to see which class could raise the most. The loonies would then be used by the Food Bank to purchase food for our Weekends and More program that makes sure kids get the nutritious food they need on the weekends to stay healthy and learning.
The Mayor's Food Drive is where we collect non-perishable items, i.e. can goods, sealed boxed items, for Calgary's Food Bank.  Both programs start this Monday to Dec 14th.

Word Work Week Nov. 22-25

We are starting our official word work testing every week. These words are made up of sight words and word family words. Sight words are words that often cannot be sounded out or make up 78% of what we read or write. They are VERY important for our little learners to be practicing. I will be posting these words here on the Blog and in Google Classroom for reference when students can't be in the classroom. It is recommended that students practice reading and spelling these words at home and at school to experience success. We will be reviewing some words from this week next week so it is a slightly longer list than usual. The list will be 5 words on a normal week.

Next week's words are:

    -and

    -I

    -a

    -to

    -in

    -it

    -my

    -like

    - go

    -the

I will be posting different ways to practice these words here.https://youtu.be/61utg8VNUn0

Eye Exams

 Hello Families,

I just wanted to send a quick note letting ALL families know that eye exams for children under 18 are covered under Alberta Health Services! Often getting an eye exam can uncover a reading challenge before it is too late. I encourage all families to add an eye exam to their to do list.

Be well everyone!

Lots of Runny noses and Coughs

Hello all,

Please remember to follow the COVID checklist before sending your child to school each day. We are seeing many runny noses and coughs in the last week.

Many little friends are needing reminders to keep their masks on and fingers out of noses and mouths. Please talk about how we can keep each other safe.

Be well all!

Welcome to November

As the days start getting colder, students will need to be independent in getting their zippers done up. Please practice this at home. It helps us get out for recess on time as 17 zippers are a lot for one teacher.🥰

Please don't forget to send snowpants, toques and mitts as we will be going out for recess daily. Indoor recess will happen when windchill gets below -20. Fresh air and a movement break greatly help our little learners.

Please also practice tying laces at home if you have sent shoes that are not velcro. Thanks for the help!
